Adina Hales Exclusive Interview
Adina Hales gave an exclusive insight into the struggles she had to overcome in the modelling industry to get to the position she is in now.

What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome in your modelling career?
As a model of Egyptian descent, I didn't feel like I fit the common perception of of Westernised beauty. When I went for casting interviews I would always feel out of place and would never end up getting the position due to not fitting the ideologies they wanted to portray. It caused me to want to undergo surgery and even caused me to have an eating disorder. Overcoming these insecurities was the most painful yet rewarding thing i've ever done. I began to build my self esteem back and I was determined to make a stand in the modelling community and use myself as an advocate for diversity and acceptance of all.
Where were you brought up? How did it affect your progression and opportunities in modelling?
I was brought up in a town in the South of England. It wasn't well known like big cities such as London, therefore I felt i would never have the opportunity to achieve my life goal of modelling. I just came to the conclusion I would lead an ordinary life and fulfill and ordinary job. I wasn't even one of the lucky ones who got scouted just walking down the street, I had to take my dream into my own hands and put myself forward for castings. I had extreme anxiety, yet my passion allowed me to overcome this. Although it was a risk, and I dealt with plenty of rejection, I kept pushing and the risk paid of and allowed for a greater reward.

What modelling jobs have you pursued? What is your biggest achievement so far?
I've began by modelling for online clothing companies to begin with. I had odd jobs here and there, until I got asked to walk at Paris Fashion week. It was the most surreal experience and completely changed the game for me. I got approached by big brands to model for them such as Gucci in their runways. I feel so grateful for the future path that is ahead of me, just a small town girl proving anyone can make it big.
